G2 Releases the First WiFi RFID System-on-Chip March 31, 2006
G2 Microsystems Inc, a company that designs and manufactures circuits for Mobile Resource Management (MRM), introduces the first in the industry system-on-chip solution, the G2C501. This chip is used for RFID tags that can be read by WiFi access.
Since Wi-Fi infrastructures are widely deployed, the new product allows companies to install RFID systems at a lower cost. G2 Microsystems says, using the product results in at least 75% reduction in total cost.
RFID tags using the new G2 chip shall make asset tracking easier than ever. Just by obtaining Internet access through a local access point and communicating with a local server, one can easily track RFID-tagged items as they move through the supply chain.
The chip also has an integrated 125KHz receiver that allows users to track location of a RFID-tagged item within 3 meters.
The G2C501 system-on-chip also consumes ultra low-power; thus, the new product can last longer than other chips. A RFID tag using the G2 system-on-chip is said to last for five years.
